About Permanent Makeup
Frequently Asked Questions

What is Permanent Makeup?  Permanent makeup is a great alternative to daily application of makeup.  During the process, natural color pigments are placed into the dermal layer of the skin.  This technique has been medically developed and specifically designed for safe application.  The pigments used are made of earth's finest ingredients of inert organic and inorganic compounds formulated to be hypo-allergenic and fade resistant.

What color can I have done?  Almost any color can be applied.  We work closely with you to use pigments that blend natrually with your skin.

How much does it cost?  The procedures cost from $50.00 for a beauty mark to $250.00 for full lip color.  If you do some research you will see that our prices are definately competitive.  Remember that as professionals we want to offer you the best services possible using the best equipment.  This is not something that you want to shop for based on price alone, cheaper is not always better when it comes to your face!  See our list of services for specific pricing.

What if I want to wear a different color makeup?  If you want to change your color for one day, you can apply regular makeup over your permanent cosmetics.  If you decide you want to permanently change your pigment color we can change it by blending a different pigment over your original color.

Is it really permanent?  The color will fade some over time.  Typically full color lasts 3-7 years, in some cases much longer, however there are factors that effect this.  Ultraviolet exposure from the sun or tanning beds, smoking, some medications, and excessively dry skin can decrease the life span of the pigment.  Wearing sunglasses will protect your eyeliner.  We recommend that you wear sunblock or lipgloss with SPF on your eyebrows and lips to protect the pigment.  We offer touch-up applications at a reduced cost if your pigment does fade over time.

Is it safe?  Your safety is our priority.  The pigments used are made from natural ingredients and we use only disposable, sterile needles.  We also wear clean surgical gloves for all procedures.  Everything used is either disposed of after use or sterilized in an autoclave according to strict guidelines of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.  Although infection is possible, as it is in all invasive skin procedures, it is extremely rare.

How long does it take to heal?  Expect the healing process to take 4-7 days.  Immediately after the procedure you may experience minor redness and swelling.  This will go down within the first 6-48 hours depending on your procedure.  Ice and over the counter antihistamines will help reduce the swelling. In addition the pigment will appear darker than you planned.  Don't panic!  The color stabilizes during the first 2 weeks and will soften to the color you chose during that time. A day or two after the procedure a light crust will form over the area.  This may itch some but will flake off, generally within 3-7 days.  Most of our clients don't even take time off work while they heal. See our Before and After photos!

What will the procedure feel like?  We use a topical numbing agent to help with any discomfort the procedure may cause.  Some clients state they do not feel anything, others describe feeling vibration, a light scratching, or pressure.  The area may be sensitive for a few days after the procedure, feeling similar to a sunburn in most cases.

How long does the procedure take?  Procedures usually take between 1-2 hours, depending on what you have chosen to have done.

How many appointments are necessary?  Three to six weeks after your initial application you may need to come in for touch-up to perfect lines or color.  This appointment won't last as long as your initial one and is at no cost to you.  In the future if you would like to have your makeup color or design changed, or if your color has faded and you would like a touch up we are happy to do this at a reduced cost.
